Ineco Scope of Work:

Package 4 scope for Haslin Stephen Edwards JV (HSEJV) was the upgrade of three stations on the T3 Bankstown Line to Sydney Metro standards. This involved major works at each of Marrickville, Canterbury and Lakemba stations during normal construction hours, scheduled out-of-hours periods, and during rail shutdown periods. Ineco was engaged by HSEJV to manage the relationship with the affected communities – each station being in a largely residential context. The Ineco team engaged seamlessly with the HSEJV team bringing a depth of experience and knowledge in common Community expectations, construction terminology and organisational structures within a wide range of multi-disciplined infrastructure projects.

Ineco’s Communication and Community Engagement team delivered best practice communication and stakeholder community engagement meeting the project’s social responsibilities and balancing a best-for-project and best-for-community outcome. Ineco’s key work included: keeping the Community aware and well notified of planned works, efficiently managing enquiries and complaints, and managing respite offered to highly affected residents during out-of-hours and rail-shutdown periods.

Challengers the Client Faced

HSEJV was undertaking the work through the COVID years, and Ineco built and managed trust levels between the community and the project team around community expectations during COVID shutdowns including noise, work practices, and social distancing.

Also, a one-size-fits-all approach to community engagement was not appropriate as each of the three communities had different demographics, physical layouts and community expectations. As the three stations worked largely independently of the others, the community engagement similarly was managed by the Ineco team as three separate – but strongly related – projects.
